Remote Sensing of Prosopis Invasion: Analysis of Management Effectiveness

Movement of humans has facilitated the spread of species into areas far from their origins. Quite often the negative impact of invasive species outweighs the positive, leading to declines in ecosystem services and loss of biodiversity. Trees in the genus Prosopis (also known as mesquite) are an example of such invasive species, and they are a significant problem in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of control of the Prosopis invasion by comparing areas that have been subjected to different management regimes. For an overview with results and figures, please visit my blog.
